ITSC 2012: Reaching Your Kids with Your Presentation Style

Set the Stage:

  • Music: What kind of environment can I create for kids with music?
  • Relationships: How can I work the room relationally to help the kids start out the day right?
  • Avoid Pet Peeves:  How does my teaching style irritate my kids?

Visuals:
  • Do I know the material well enough to not need visuals?
  • How relevant are my visuals, and how quickly do my visuals change?
  • Have I prepared my visuals in advance?
  • Are the students engaged with my message or just my visuals?
  • Use pictures to create as much effect as possible.
Message:
  • Choose a memorable headline!  We teachers call this a learning objective.  I want my headline to stick with the kids.  Could I tweet my objective in a 140-character Twitter message?
  • Can I logically come up with three points that I can emphasize in this lesson today?
  • Repeat my headline frequently!
Pacing:
  • Are my kids lost or bored?
  • Am I under or over gradually releasing?
