June 15th Workshops

I just finished looking over our class sizes for the workshops on June 15th...  WOW...  I hope that at least half of you are really joining us to learn some fun and exciting techy stuff... :)  Our numbers are so high that we have had to split 2 of our workshops in half and would have another one but there aren't enough computers for it.  I think our theme will be patience and fun.

We will have give away's during each of the DTEC sessions and tons and tons of information.  Be ready to learn and play.

Here is a list of what we will be doing...

Session 1:

  • Google Apps 101 (Michelle Keene will be teaching this class on getting your google account within our school domain)
  • Web 2.0 (Tim Swanson will lead this class and will be covering all kinds of free and low cost web tools.)
Session 2:
  • Setting up your iGoogle page (Julie Thompson, Terry A., and Michelle will be teaching this class which will be split into two groups and we will work on setting up your own iGoogle with gadgets, backgrounds, learning about chat, how to link your calendar, etc.)
  • Google Calendar (Colleen Henry will be teaching you how to set up your calendar, how to merge it with your group wise calendar, how to post it to your website, blog, how to add pizzazz)
Session 3:
  • Web 2.0 (Tim will be teaching another round of fun, free, low cost web tools and gadgets)
  • Book Tubes (Michelle will teach you how to lead your students through a new way of sharing their love of reading by creating a book tube, think movie trailer... )
Session 4:
  • Google Docs (Tami White and Michelle will be splitting this class and teaching you about using google docs, spreadsheets, forms, collaborating on projects, sharing presentations, etc)
  • Setting up a Classroom Blog (Colleen will walk you through setting up your own classroom blog, linking your calendar to your blog, using your blog to send out homework, etc.)
Going to be a busy, fun filled Friday... Hope you are all planning on joining us.

ITSC 2012: Consumer, Collaborators and Creators in a Mobile World

Consumer, Collaborators and Creators in a Mobile World

  • Google Forms are a great use for collecting data from students with Mobile Devices.
  • Mobile devices are kid magnets.  So maybe this is a tool that we should use in schools?
    • Why should we use mobile devices in the classroom?

ITSC 2012: The Textbook Reinvented for the iPad

The Textbook. Reinvented for the iPad.

iBooks 2 (simply update if you've already downloaded this app) is now available from the App Store with textbooks (+ samples) priced at $14.99 or less.  These text books are formatted as an "end use" license redeemed by individual students (i.e. "consumable" like a workbook) not "shared use" license.  This means that the student "owns" the book, not the educational institution.  Publishers may release Teacher Editions with additional resources separately; the editions will, again, need to be purchased separately.
